The road (to Messina) goes ever on and on ...

The table seen from the aerial reconnaissance.

Tankred carved the bridge according to a real brigde.

View down the village road.

War hasn't yet come upon this peaceful village.

Von den Bergen rauscht ein Wasser, wollt es wäre kühler Wein ... - From the mountain a water rushes, would like it was cool wine ... From an old German soldiers song.

Imagine a church on the ridge and a mansion in the rear.

No traffic jam on the road to Messina.

Sherman tanks provide covering fire ...

... for the advancing halftracks.

Marder IIs ambushed but failed to destroy a Sherman platoon and now face the merciless counterattack.

On the flank Shermans and Armored Infantry storm a hill occupied by Fallschirmjägers.

Last weekend we spent another afternoon working on the Sicily gaming table.

Tankred had already painted the houses and the edges of the table.

He also added light green flock to the cypress trees. They look much better and realistic now. Thanks to Frank Bauer for the hint.

The creek looked somewhat unnatural due to the brightness of the blue colours, I used in the first painting step. A wash with thinned dark green ink and another wash with a mix of blue and black ink turned a bright blue band into something that resembles to water. Finally the streambed was filled with resin. We used the two component gel from Ziterdes and are quite satisfied with the result.

Afterwards we experimented on creating leafed trees. See the results soon Unfinished Armies.

Yesterday we played a testgame on the table. Quality assurance is the backbone of every successful project.

One month to go and still a lot of things to do:The church of the village, the Renaissance mansion in the valley, suitable mission markers, mind the gaps, …
