It´s done! The Road to Messina is built!
Last Weekend, Lemming and me accompanied by Marcus a club mate presented our FoW gaming table during the Hamburgian Tactica. Se our result.

Overview: Here you see our concept coming true. All our main objectives were acchieved so you find a ridge, a street, a brook, a village, a church, a farm and a Renaissance villa with stable.

We wanted the terrain quite hilly, with a lot of cover. We hosted 5 games at the weekend and all gamers told us that the games was very interesting and the terrain was nice to play on.

All buildings were built from the scratch, some of them were moulded and cast by Rusus. He designed two buildings and a lot of accessories. In the near future you will find the italian village range in his shop. There will be several houses by Tankred available, too.

This villa was designed by Lemming. I saw it first time during the event so I was very exited when I saw this wonderful building. Lemming did build a prototype and with the experiences he decided to make this one. This was his 3rd building, which is really amazing.

A detail which was really loved by our visitors is the sun dial. Lemming has really great ideas which spice up the gaming table.

Our Scenario was an "Break through mission". The american tank company was instructed to take and hold the Renaissance villa entrence and the bridge in order to gain control over the street and the local administration. The tank company started on the right in the very right side of the picture. All 5 game were set up completely different by the gamers, which I really liked.

German dug in Fallschirmjäger wait for the american attack from the ridge in the middle of fruit trees.

German Marder II defend the village. Here you can see the destroyed version of the church. Since Rusus did cast my model, I was able to build two versions.

American Sherman tanks reach the village.

Lemming used H0 Telefon poles which adds a really nice realistic looking detail to the table. I bought some poles by Peter Pig but they looked really crude, so we decided to use the plastic ones.

Marder II awaiting the enemy. Please note the hand painted markings. I think I will never ever paint numbers with outlines in this size again. It took ages...

The center of the gaming table was marked with a memorial. Lemming found a nice H0 train memorial, I added some stairs and painted it. The place is defended by the Fallschirmjäger 3,7cm PAK with Stielgranate (please note Stu, it is almost done).

It is always very difficult to show a steep incline on a picture. But on this one you can see quite good, that the village is built on top of a hill.

Fallschirmjäger defend the mission objectives. The heavy mortar platoon by Lemming has some british booty vehicles. In the middle you can see a Citroen Car used by the Fallschirmjäger Hauptmann.

This small scratch build bridge has an counterpart in reality in silicy. Although the original is much bigger it went out quite nice I think.

Woods, buildings and rocks cover the defenders.

As usual the americans advance under the cover of heavy artillery. Nicely painted by Lemming.

Italian roofs. I wanted to achieve a look I saw in my childhood holidays. Lemmings idea to use cardboard for the roofs went out great. In the near future Rusus sells ready made roofs.

For easy and comfortable gaming, the infantry stand can be put on top of the houses. For a more realstic look they can be put inside since the houses have no bottom.

Defence line.
The Hamburgian Tactica was a reall great event. I will provide much more pictures of that event in the next days.
We still had work to do on Saturday since some of the trees had to be based and glued. I painted the whole Thursday night so I was very happy to be accompanied by Lemming and Markus who took care of the gaming table.
The feedback by the visitors of the Tactica was outstanding. Thank you very much for visiting, gaming and telling us your opinion. For sure some of the very professional modellers told us some minor things to improve the look. Suggestions are always welcome.
However were very pleased with the event and the games on the table and your feedback made us happy. In the next month we will work on the Tunisian Table so stay tuned!
Many of you told us that they read our posts. So please feel free to comment this article. It would be nice to hear from our vistors!
