Inspiration during holidays: Ston in Dalmatia
When I was a boy I often drawed castle walls climbing up a hill with towers, doorways, stairs and cranes. I was very obsessed by that idea and had dozens of papersheets with different drawings. Now I have seen a construction which exactly showed my ideas from childhood.

Ston walls viewed from the town

The wall was started in 1330 a.D.

I will definetly rebuild this church in 15mm for my italian scenery

Ston was secured by double walls

My girlfriend is climbing up a tower

The Ragusan employed very skilled architects

When the peninsula Pelješac belonged to Dubrovnik the Ragusan made much money with the salines in the area of Ston. These were protected by forts and the wall. The wall was around 5km long, had 40 Towers and 3 castles. Wow. I was very impressed. The wall on the mountain was somewhat thin compared to other castles I have seen but at least there was a wall on the hill, that was all what counted I guess.
However the Ragusan style of stone buildings and the fortification was very inspirational. I will build the church for my italian village like the church in Ston.
I climbed the walls with my girlfriend and she laughed at me since I suffer a little bit under vertigo. She stopped joking when I slipped at a steep part of the battlement. Since I am always much too careful at such like places nothing happened and I just wondered how one could ever fight on these steep battlements. I guess there was some wood on it with stairs.
For sure I will provide more architectural tabletop inspiration in the future in this blog.
