FoW: The art of war - an inspiring book
Yesterday my copy of "The art of war" arrived and I was very surprised. The Book is huge, all miniatures are shown approximatly in their actual size. Read what I think about it at a first glance.
The book is a great mixture between magazine and book. It´s quite big, almost A4 or letter sized and is printed in full color with an additional green metallic colour, a really nice good looking detail and contains over 80 pages. "The art of war" is available for 13 €.
If you play Flames of war you usually look in the forums what skilled painters do with their models. Usually the quality of the pictures is due to the web not great. In this book you can have a look at the models of famous painters like Warpainterbrother at their actual size. This is really a great feature. Every painter shown was interviewed, the questions matter and were chosen carefully.
To be honest I am very surprised by the concept. Making books like these is quite expensive considering editorial staff, designers and managing contributions. GW for instance usually provides quite good articles but I have to buy books or magazines which are far more expensive and contain less information. The concept to portrait customers is great and very inspiring. One could say that is the cheapest way to get contents, but Battlefront gives famous painters the honour they deserve.
The contents fit almost every painting skill. The first issue contains basic painting instructins like drybrushing, washing but also some more advanced technics like decals, mud, ice or airbrushing. Moreover you can read how a specific artist did his army and what technics he used. All information in one handy book. That is really an excellent source.
The firs issue is really great, I hope that the quality will be similar for the future issues.
