Basing: Experience vs. theory

Some weeks ago I had a couple of WAB games with some Hamburgian wargamers. When I saw how often WAB miniatures have to be rearranged I dropped my plans to base models with magnets.

Frank Bauer´s norman spearmen - the reason for me to change my mind on basing with magnets.

Wargaming in Hamburg

Grimm and Frank Bauer had a WAB game with me and I could have a look at their beautiful armies.

Frank Bauers middle east building

Frank´s buildings will for sure inspire me to build some terrain for the first crusade.

For sure the complete story is more complicated. First of all my experience at Frank Bauer´s place with the hamburgian 28mm WAB armies was, that they need to be solid and practical. I wondered if my magnetbasing mentioned in my earlier posts is useful for WAB. Thank you guys for playing with me - we had a great time.

The second reason for dropping my initial idea is, that I have seen Frank Bauer´s Persian Field of Glory army. It was obvious to me that the 20mm scale based on FOG 28mm bases is a great scale for FOG. It looked great and already impressive.

For my beloved 28mm scale miniatures, which I plan to paint detailed, WAB is the right rule system and provides me a lot of opponents and events to go to.

The decision is made, currently I am painting to first buch of norman infantry which is based on magnetic multibases with fixed miniatures on it.
