6pdr Portee
I finished these models last year but since I would like to show you my entire collection in this blog I also post pictures of recent models. The 6pdrs portee platoon was a almost never ending story.

I added two crew members on foot to the truck bases

The open driver´s cab adds a lot of character to the models

The same gun models are used for mounted and dismounted version

Dismounted version of the 6pdrs

The gun crew is glued on the guns.

I think I worked half a year on these models. First I tried to hide magnets in the guns in order to have the guns removeable from the trucks in order to put them on infantry bases as well.
Drilling the tiny parts of the gun and the tires was not fun and I had to make some corrections with green stuff. Meanwhile I would just glue the magnets underneath the gun and a corresponding magnet in the truck. This could have been easy but there is always something to learn in our hobby.
Moreover I painted some parts of the gun red white because I thought they were staffs for measuring as to be seen at artillery pieces. Some hobby expert in the FoW Forums told me, that the staff was a part of the gun carriagehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Desert6Pdr.jpg. To be honest I did not care and I did not change the model. The colorful parts look nice and I know, that they are wrong, so maybe I change it sometime.
With this platoon I first tried to glue trucks on bases. I modeled some tire tracks and some shell holes and glued sand on it. It really looks nice but on the other hand the fragile models always broke during transportation. Meahwhile I glued the models again for sure 6 times. Therefore I would not add a base again to a truck which was not cast with that base. Especially the ammunition box on top of the driver usually breaks because of the white metal construchtion.
The highlighting technic was inspired by Tellus whose desert vehicles really look outstanding. I tried his technic it worked out very time consuming. The Marder II Models I did really differ a lot from this technic and I think I won´t paint again like I did with the portees.
One really bad thing on portees is that they have an incredible big surface so there is to paint really a lot. Since I painted different colors onto a black foundation it took ages to finish them.
The 6pdr Battery is a really useful anti tank weapon since the FoW 2nd edition was release, as Stu points out in his article on 6pdrs.
He mentioned the Sneaky weasel special movement, a really funny expression. I always wondered like Stu why the germans use their Stormtrooper move for hiding...
However, I really like the models. The very special british vehicle design is absolutely obvious in the 6pdr portee, gaming is interesting and risky. If you can stand the modeling and the painting you should add 6pdrs to your Rats, too.
